Troubled Marriages

Let's talk before there's trouble!

In providing ministry to people who divorce, we hear about the regrets that people had in their marriage. After it is over is too late to repair the relationship. Therefore, we would like to take this time to talk about this seemingly inappropriate topic at this very happy time in your life. With far too many divorces happening and couples abandoning their marriage when things get tough, we need to talk. Click here to read the full article.

Recovery Marriage Encounter

Recovery Marriage Encounter was created by and for couples in 12-step recovery programs.  It is a way for a couple to strengthen, deepen, and understand their commitment to one another.  It follows a format similar to a traditional Marriage Encounter with an additional focus on the effects that addiction and the recovery process can have on a relationship.

The team couples and the clergy, who present each weekend, are all in recovery programs.  Recovery Marriage Encounter should not be mistaken for a couple retreat, AA retreat, counseling session, or group therapy, and is not oriented toward problem solving.  Recovery Marriage Encounter is an opportunity to experience the meaning of married love by practicing the dynamics of dialogue to improve communication skills.

In the words of the 'Big Book,'  "If you have decided you want what we have and are willing to go to any length to get it - then you are ready to take certain steps."

Courage to Love

A 12-step program to help individuals cope with stress in a marriage relationship, based on the highly successful 12-step program originated by Alcoholic Anonymous. This is specifically oriented toward married couples and their problems. It is not a religious program but a spiritual recovery, and is open to all. The only requirement for membership is a desire to deal more effectively with problems in a marriage. Courage to Love is a fellowship of individuals, who through shared experience and mutual support, are attempting to deal with problems in marriage.

We welcome everyone who wants to recover from the desperation of crumbling marriage relationship, whatever the cause. We come from difference levels of brokenness. The best results are seen when the 12 steps are practiced diligently by both partners, although positive results have been experienced even when only one spouse is active in the program.

There are no dues or fees for members; we are self-supporting through our own voluntary contributions, neither soliciting nor accepting outside donations. The Couples Twelve Step Program is not affiliated with any public or private organization, political movement, ideology or religious doctrine; we take no position on outside issues.

The group's primary purpose is to help those struggling with a stressed marriage relationship.

Retrouvaille: a Lifeline for Married Couples.

This is a program to help couples heal and renew their own marriage relationship.

The word Retrouvaille, simply means "rediscovery." The program offers the chance to rediscover yourself, your spouse, and a loving relationship in your marriage. Tens of thousands headed for divorce have successfully saved their marriages by attending. Retrouvaille is a not spiritual retreat, not a sensitivity group, not a seminar, not a social gathering.

Retrouvaille is a live-in weekend and post weekend program for married couples. The emphasis is on a technique of communication between a husband and wife. During the weekend, a series of in-depth presentations are given to you and other couples like yourselves. Each presentation, given by one of three married couples and a priest, focuses on a specific area of a marriage relationship. After each presentation, you will have a chance to reflect on it by yourself, then discuss it with your spouse in complete privacy.

You will, however be encouraged, to put the past behind you and start 'rediscovering' one another again. The weekend is not a 'miracle cure', therefore, post-weekend sessions have been designed to continue the marriage renewal begun on the weekend. These follow-ups review earlier concepts in greater depth, present new ones and help you apply these concepts to your own marriage.

Upcoming Dates: Chicago, July 18, 2008

Mission Statement
School for Marriage™ believes in the sacredness of marital relationships and holds a vision for saving marriages. School for Marriage™ challenges couples and marriage educators to act with integrity and mutual respect. School for Marriage™ provides education, training and multiple options for achieving a good marriage.

Philosophy
School for Marriage™ believes in the sacredness of marital relationships and holds a vision for saving marriages. We believe that couples prefer marriage to divorce and need help in accomplishing this when they are in distress. We believe the role of the marriage educator is to facilitate discussion, educate the person(s), honor ambivalence when it is present and focus the couple on the relationship and their hopes for it. Through education and support, skills and techniques can be taught to individuals and couples seeking fulfilling relationships.

Our purpose
Our purpose is to prevent divorce whenever possible. Couples on the Cusp®, ambivalent and undecided partners, are taught Stay or Go Techniques® that are relevant to their marital situation. Marriage educators discover the importance of honoring their client’s ambivalence. A negotiated Controlled Separation® contract provides a structure that assists Couples on the Cusp® in slowing down and cooling down in order to make a sane decision and have fewer regrets.

This practical intervention in working with couples encourages cooperation, as adversaries become advocates. In this way hope is restored and couples are energized and inspired to reclaim their integrity and recommit to each other. In turn, children and families are spared undue trauma.
