We want you to have a successful marriage and we know you want that too. Studies have shown
that both happily and unhappily married couples have the same amount of disagreements in their
marriages, the difference between them is in the way they resolve these disagreements. Enrich
your marriage through workshops, talks, reading and other resources.
Soul Mates
-Reprinted with permission from
Foundations.
Many couples who are engaged tell us that they found in this person they are about to marry a true
soul mate. Most of us hunger for a close relationship, where we can feel comfortable, accepted, respected, and unique, and while marriage usually starts in that place of total acceptance, the daily grind of unpaid bills, flat tires, unreasonable bosses and flooded basements often create stresses that come between two people. It takes some skill to keep the intimacy in your marriage alive and growing.

First Years and Forever
Two two-hour workshops during your first year of marriage.
All workshops are in the evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Once you are married about six
months, sign up for either Session A or Session B. Session A deals with Expectations, Adjustments,
and Building Strengths. Session B deals with Finances, Faith, and Sexuality.
Most couples attend Session A first and then about six months later attend Session B,
but you are free to attend in either order at any time that works for you. We hope you attend
both sessions some time during your first two years of marriage. We are providing you with a
comprehensive diocesan process for preparing for and living a marriage for a lifetime. With the
collaboration of parish staff, program facilitators, and yourselves, you will have every
opportunity to build a marriage that echoes the love that God has for us; a marriage that is
truly a marriage in the Lord.

Marriage
Encounter is a weekend away from home, family, and responsibilities.
Here, in a comfortable,
secluded environment, a couple is guided in
the discovery of a new way of communication that will help them know
each other better.
It is not a retreat, but a program designed to give couples the
opportunity to examine their lives together, their strengths and
weaknesses, and their attitudes toward each other and their families.
Assemblies of God Marriage Encounter is based on the belief that the
marriage relationship is the most significant, most intimate
relationship on earth.

This two-day PAIRS® workshop is for couples
who are committed to staying or getting more connected. Now more than ever,
couples long to stay together for reasons other than survival and security. They
desire having a relationship built on deeper understanding and acceptance of one
another; an ongoing pursuit of pleasure and enjoyment; and the ability to solve
problems by reaching mutually shared agreements.
Education and research now confirms that couples can learn the skills needed to
create a loving, peer relationship. This workshop provides you with a new model
for having and sustaining the intimate relationship you want and deserve.
You and your partner will learn to:
- Develop empathy for each other
- Express your inner feelings without restraint or fear of being misunderstood
- Recognize and shift away from styles of communication that block listening and movement toward solutions
- Create new “attending” behaviors that nurture goodwill and strengthen
your bond as a couple

Bonding
is the heart of an intimate relationship. As a physiologically based need, it is
the experience of emotional openness and physical closeness that requires
another person for its fulfillment.
This powerful three-day experience teaches you ways to develop the habit of
“bonding” as part of your relationship. Couples will receive attention and
guidance in removing any blocks that limit them having a more intimate
connection. Time will also be dedicated for individual healing and letting go of
past hurts or disappointments from the relationship in order to reach new
levels of closeness.
