Adoptive Parenting

Catholic Charities Adoption Services

Domestic Adoption Program - Provides placement of infants, whose birth parent(s) have been served through the Maternity Program Services and wish to make a plan of adoption. Program also helps to identify adoptive families who would like to adopt a special needs child, an older child, and/or sibling group who are legally free and referred through the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. Pre-adoption counseling, adoption studies, licensing, placement and post-placement services are provided to families. Waiting Families Support Groups and Adoptive Family Clubs are available. The Adoptive Parents Guild provides annual social and religious events for adoptive families. Adoptive families receive the Adoptive Families Voice, a quarterly newsletter. Post adoption services are available.

Inter-Country Adoption Program - Provides stability for children for whom a permanent home is not available in the country of birth. The ages of the children vary from infant to 16 years of age. Services to families include: pre-adoption counseling, adoption study and licensing of homes, education on cultural issues of international adoptions, support in creating the dossier and INS requirements for various countries. Travel and in-country supports are provided to families through established relationships with child-placing agencies in the country of origin of child. Catholic Charities has international placement programs in Mexico and Poland. Post placement services include assistance in achieving legal adoption in the U.S. and attaining documentation of U.S. citizenship for the child. Linkages with adoptive family support groups for country of origin of the child are often available, as well as support and membership within the Adoptive Parents Guild.

Department of Children and Family Services Adoption Services

Adoption offers a chance at a new beginning for many children cared for by the Department. Families constitute the building blocks of society. They provide children with the love and security needed to grow into healthy adults. The Department helps thousands of adoptable children to find a new home each year. Most children placed by DCFS were from homes so abusive or neglectful that it would be unsafe for them to return.

DCFS provides and funds a variety of financial and non-financial benefits after adoption or guardianship, including subsidies for families who adopt waiting children or become guardians of children in DCFS care. Subsidy agreements are entered into prior to court finalization of adoptions or approval of guardianships and begin after the adoptions (adoption assistance agreements) or guardianships (subsidized guardianship agreements) are finalized.

Lutheran Child and Family Services

LCFS is an Illinois adoption agency with a long history of providing services to families and children, dating back to the opening of an orphanage in 1873. We have many years of experience in providing professional, reliable adoption services at a reasonable cost. We have assisted thousands of families in adopting children domestically and, since 1984, have assisted hundreds of families in adopting internationally.

Lutheran Child and Family Services strives to provide you with personal and professional adoption service. Rather than attend a large informational meeting, you will personally talk over the phone with our intake specialist and have all your questions answered.

You will be assigned your own worker who will walk you through the home study process and help prepare you for the role of an adoptive parent.

Our social workers all hold master's degrees and several have been touched by adoption in their own lives. They can provide you with highly expert, professional service.

We also offer free or low-cost small-group educational seminars where you can personally talk to the speakers.

Eligibility
LCFS' eligibility guidelines follow those required by Illinois law and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and are generally very broad. There are no requirements regarding marriage, divorce, religion, upper age of parents or number of children. LCFS can assist both single and married adults residing in Illinois in completing an adoption.
